Brothers Juniors capped off one of its most successful seasons on record, winning four of the six Group 9 JRL Southern Pool Grand Finals on Saturday at McDonalds Park.
The under 11 Grand Final was close to the best game on the day, with the game requiring extra time before a winner was decided. Brothers and Kangaroos traded tries throughout the game and the score at the end of regular time was locked together at 12 all.
The game flowed from one end of the field to the other but desperate defense from both sides snuffed out many scoring opportunities. Man of the match and winner of the Rick Keast Memorial best on ground crossed for this third try of the game in the second period of extra time to wrap up a sensational victory.
Brothers under 13 avenged their loss in the 2010 decider with a strong game against an equally talented Turvey Park outfit. The game started out in typical fashion with some very strong defense from both sides as the struggled to gain the ascendancy. The game opened up for Brothers when dynamic ball runner Ethan Andrews was injected into the game off the bench after the 15 minute mark.
Andrews was only on the field for 20 seconds where the raced onto the ball out side and sprinted 60 meters to open the scoring. Andrews was in again ten minutes later before Turvey hit back with a try just on the half time buzzer. Nicholas Hay scored the only try of the second half and was later named as the Rick Keast Medal winner.
There is no such thing as a certainly and Brothers under 14 proved this with a sensational fifth straight Grand Final victory over the pre-post favorites Albury. While the Albury side has taken all before them this season the Brothers boys remained composed and went into the game quietly confident. The boys used their big game experience to defend the many attacking raids of the big and mobile Albury side while using the ball with exceptional quality to match the Albury side on the scoreboard.
Blake Jorgensen made a huge impact in the game while Nicholas Orr tackled non-stop and ran the ball relentlessly for the entire game. The immensely talented Dylan McLachlan controlled the game from the five-eighth position and was recognized as the best player on the field with the Rick Keast Medal.
Brothers Under 15 finished off the year as undefeated premiers over longtime rivals Kangaroos running out 18 points to 4 winners. The Brothers started the game strongly with some great running and ball movement.
H ard working front rower James Hay open the scoring for Brothers when he crashed over for a well-constructed try after 7 minutes of play. Brothers put on another 3 tries during the first half with Sharne Robinson finishing off a backline movement to score out wide and Jack Stubbs seizing the opportunity to dive over from dummy half close to the line.
Roos hit back with a try just before half time and the score at half time 20 points to 4. Roos came out strongly after the break and matched to Brothers in both defense and attach and neither side was able to add to the half time score line. Winner of the Rick Keast Memorial man of the match award was the hard running hard tackling lock Troy Barby
