History of Wagga Brothers Seniors

The first general meeting to form a senior club was 11 September 1979 . The first game was played on the 23rd March 1980 against the Wagga Magpies in the Group 9 competition.

The Wagga Brothers did not win a game in the Group 9 competition and had no other choice but to play in the Group 13 competition due to an exclusion by Group 9 in 1981 .

The move to Group 13 in its second year proved a positive move for the fledgling club winning consecutive First Grade Grand Finals in 1981 and 1982. Further Group 13 titles came in 1984 and 1990.

Come 1992 Country Rugby League determined to merge Group 13 and Group 9. Wagga Brothers along with Wagga Kangaroos undertook a joint venture approach to the new look Group 9 competition, merging to form Kangaroos Brothers. However, despite some moderate success in the initial season the merger was dissolved at the end of the 1992 season and Wagga Brothers returned to a stand alone entity where it has competed in Group 9 until the present day.

To date Brothers Seniors have only won a single Group 9 First Grade Premiership in 1995. However, there have been numerous lower grade titles in Sullivan Cup, Weissel Cup and Reserve Grade and the club is proud of its track record in providing a pathway for the Brothers Juniors into the senior playing ranks.

Group 9 introduced League Tag for women in 2008 and our Brothers League Tag team have excelled. To date our League Tag have claimed eight Premierships in 13 years.
